Career Change Central: Going Freelance as a Virtual Assistant and Copywriter

Having reached the grand age of 30, becoming a mum and understanding the importance of a work-life balance, this summer, I made a bold career shift, moving from English teaching to the compelling world of virtual assistance and copywriting - something that I had explored before (2017-2019), but never truly left behind.

Transitioning from English teaching to becoming a freelance virtual assistant and copywriter has been an eye-opening experience already... and I am absolutely loving it. Before, the thought of working during the summer holidays, that precious time where I could fully switch off (until the September scaries kick in), would have not been welcomed - but right now, I am loving the chance to build myself as a brand, network with amazing people and focus on other thrilling and growing opportunities.

I've been fortunate enough to have taken on the role of Executive Assistant and Copywriter for the next 6 months with the Future of Food Competition.

This innovative competition invites entrepreneurs from the food industry to pitch an idea which will transform the future of food. Aligning with megatrends such as AI, supply chains, climate change, lab-grown meat, health-consciouness and more, each entrepreneurial mind is tasked with developing an inspirational idea that they will then pitch on 26th November 2024 at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

Since joining Barney Mauleverer, the competition's host and organiser, I have developed content on LinkedIn and Instagram (reels, imagery, Canva designs, and copy), networked with top FMCG challenger brands at Bread and Jam Festival in Angel on behalf of FofF, connected with wholesale suppliers, developed and written a marketing strategy, handled website administration and there's still more to come as we approach the competition.

The world of virtual assistance is absolutely stunning.

And I am ready to get my teeth into it!
